Throw back it’s senior year spring break which perfectly lines up with Mardi Gras. Whoa what a surprise that was! While New Orleans is famous for Mardi Gras but there is so much more, we can start with the food and music. Being in New Orleans is like being transformed into another time. Everywhere serves authentic creole cuisine and there is this wonderful jazzy music playing which just calms your soul.
Mardi Gras, it probably wasn’t the brightest idea but eight of us decided to road trip down in a van, 16 hours later we were on Bourbon Street ready to test out the famous hand grenades. Bourbon Street is shoulder to shoulder and a full party in the street all night long however Canal Street is parade after parade with each float being completely beautiful. I will warn you please beware of the pick pocketers, it is packed during this time of the year and depending on the time of year COLD. If you are planning a trip or deciding to go, this is a bucket list item. The police arrive Tuesday night and clear the streets while on horseback and it is almost a ghost town the next day. Giving you the perfect opportunity to explore the rest of the city!
The WWI Museum is interactive, I found it fascinating to go through as a nurse which gave a completely different perspective.
The aquarium is similar to most other big cities but I am a sucker for it anyway. I highly recommend doing a walking ghost tour you will learn so much about the city and how it is believed to still be haunted. Bonus you can drink along the way and you stop at multiple unique bars… believe it, or don’t it’s still a great experience!
If you have time, I would recommend doing a gator boat ride. You can feed the babies and get to see them up close.
