I love a good reason for a weekend away. This one was a duo with it being a birthday and George Strait happened to be playing at Dickies Arena. I get to see friends that live out of state and I got to see the King of Country music perform in his home state! When they say everything is bigger in Texas, I can agree it is true. Everyone was in boots; cowboy hats, loving Texas, and the United States oh the twang was strong. We went to the concert Friday night and explored Fort Worth on Saturday before flying back out Sunday.
I suggest brunch at Yolk – Sundance Square beware there will be a long wait so go early! From here you can walk southeast down main street through Sundance Square Pavilion which is where the giant glitter cowboy hat is. There is also a common area where you can sit outside and relax. After leaving here keep walking southeast down main street to see the JFK Memorial and the Fort Worth Water Gardens! The water gardens are beautiful, there are multiple tiers, you can sit on the ledge or walk down into them!
Early afternoon you will want to head over to Fort Worth Stockyard National Historic District. Twice daily 11:30AM & 4:00PM you will see the Cattle Drive in the streets. There are lots of shops and mechanical bull riding! If you are looking for dinner H3 Ranch is highly recommended for steaks, ribs and rainbow trout. At the end of Mule Alley is Hotel Drover which is modern western styled hotel, pop in for a cocktail and enjoy the beautiful patio.
